~Imagined Worlds Project (Mood Board In Depth Look)~

After deciding to form groups with a classmate I made an individual mood board in which I'd both share with David and combine ideas from his to help create a theme.

A mood board revolving around my designated idea for a theme

Theme explanation: Vapourwave is a small music genre given real life and a chance to be noticed by the internet in the early 2010's alongside many other different genres of music all housing the same gimmicky names, making this a very new concept even in 2019. Despite feeling and sounding very unique, it is very much derived from the music of the 80's and 90's which is one of the various reasons why listening to it feels rather nostalgic. It also takes inspiration from psychedelic music of the early 2000's which gives it a very futuristic look too. A large part of it's personal appeal to myself is it's ability to sound very new and old at the same time.

Like previously mentioned it's popularity spiked around the early 2010's on sites such as Reddit, 4chan and YouTube. This was also the time when perhaps the most iconic and influential music of the genre came to be on YouTube, it was called 'Floral Shoppe' and the artwork featured on the cover was what inspired a large amount of creators within the genre to all lean towards a certain aesthetic.

The theme Vapourwave artwork tends to follow is a pretty simple basis consisting of light simple colors, old looking photos, computer UI and lots of abstract imagery like statues and animals, particularly Dolphins which look nice in the artwork.

Here is some more reference for this similar theme, it's definitely worth noting that with such an abstract concept theme tend to differ leaving you with lots of various categories for the art form. Here is some stuff focusing more of simple desert scenery.

Another detail to note is that they like to use lots of wire-frame in the landscape and skies to help reinforce a digital futuristic feeling.

Aside from the origins and variations it was important to remember that I needed to make an imagined 3D world out of this and the prior concept might have felt a little lackluster and lazy despite how nice they may have ended up looking in the end. I could always do something like that another time so I suggested (and eventually made a mood board consisting of this idea) making a city that would fit the same ambiance as what I've explained here.

A concept which sprung to mind a little was to follow another nice niche people like to use in Vapourwave style music video and art is an infinite loop of sorts consisting of a car driving down some sort of abstract desert of city road. Here are some examples.

A theme like this really intrigued me because it'd give me the chance to almost disguise my imagined world into a semi-form of game, this sort of thing is also something I've been looking to do for quite a while so it seemed like a good path to take. After sharing the idea David seemed to like it so we went with it and were also shown a video by a lecturer of a game someone made following a similar concept so it was something I felt was possible.
