There are many game development topics that have an effect on the game development industry.
Mobile Gaming:
Mobile gaming is a large sector of the gaming industry but not as renowned as the likes of PC and console. Running on mobile devices means developers must either limit what devices can access their game or reduce the quality of the game's aspects as a whole.
Pros of Mobile Gaming:
Game has a large market open to everyone with a mobile device or tablet (more accessible and cheaper alternatives to consoles).
Allows developers suited to mobile technology to create games revolving around that system.
Creates revenue for the companies store (App Store, Google Play Store etc.).
People may prefer touch controls as an oppose to controllers.
Cons of Mobile Gaming:
Touch controls can get annoying to use.
Mobile games have a reputation for being loaded with advertisements and in-app purchases, leading to annoying gameplay.
Mobile phones have less power to run things then a console or PC so mobile games tend to be of a lower quality.
Gender Representation and Stereotypes:
Gender representation has always been apparent within the gaming scene, as far back as the early days of Lara Croft. It is very important to make as many people feel 'associated' with your game as possible, to an extent which might make gender representation seem too forced, something Battlefield V has previously demonstrated. Sometimes, whether or not it conforms to our modern day stereotypes, a man just fits the profile of a 'hero' better so it's very important to represent different people in a way that makes logical sense.
Pros of Gender Representation and Stereotypes:
Helps to promote equality within different communities.
Allows for more creativity within character design.
Makes a game feel more realistic.
Cons of Gender Representation and Stereotypes:
Can feel too forced onto people.
Sometimes fitting to certain stereotypes is the better way to approach a character concept.
Controversial game dynamics.
